opposite ends…

February 7th, 2008

alright, i am going to apologize ahead of time. i am sicker than all get out and can barely breath. so there is not a whole lot of oxygen making it to the brain i guess.

first, i have to admit that i am not good with peer pressure. i was a huge advocate against drinking before my first sip. so when i needed to put my head down and do laundry last night so that i could stop wearing my socks inside out and my roommate pitched me on taking in a quick flick, i bit.

i mean, come on, matching socks or taking in waht appears to be the funniest movie in theaters right now? yeah, that is what i thought. and you know the flick i am talking about. just the clips of that shark with the laugh track in the background is enough to get you through the door.

strange wilderness.

done by adam sandler’s production company and starring the sandler regulars with steve zahn in the lead. backing him is the fat kid from superbad and the kid that played the lead in accepted. serious funny, right?

WRONG.

it is hands down one of the worst movies that i have ever been stupid enough to sit through. right up there with stallone stinker, stop or my mom will shoot.

gray, linds and i got there early enough for the previews. there were two others in the theater and one more joined us. not even one half hour later, we were by ourselves.

anymore, everybody just thinks that crude and shocking is the recipe for funny. ummm, you left something out….

lets put it this way, i was more entertained by that epic eddie murphy turd, norbit. i know.

that combined with a sudden crippling head cold, and i was couch bound for today. i feel like death warmed over.

so it was me and my best friend, HDTV w/DVR and MOD. oh, you know it. my rough child hood of being the kid that had to get off the couch to turn the knob to one of the other 13 channels has made me appreciate the nicer things in life.

my choice? the kingdom.

all i heard about it was that the last half hour of the movie will absolutely floor you. i was game.

jamie foxx, jennifer garner, all star character actor chris cooper, and role that i thought stole the show for jason bateman. best thing i have seen him do since silver spoons (sorry, i never got into arrested development). and the saudi actors were impeccable. foxx pulls off the heartwarming, subtle badass.

the subject matter of the flick made it extremely relevant with today’s heat in saudi arabia.

so, opposite ends of the spectrum for me on the cinematic experience. i am reinstituting my “unless its a date, nothing but action flicks in the theaters…”
