you chose…
November 23rd, 2010… poorly. i always see that old dude that protected the holy grail at the end of indiana jones and the last crusade whenever i see the affect of someone’s decision. the nazi collaborator just gets done aging a million years in ten seconds and the 1000 year old night just says, “he chose… poorly.” understatement of the movie.
but as always, i digress…
we live in this great counrty of america. we have all these amazing freedoms that everyone neglects, abuses, or forgets on a regular basis. but they are the freedoms that are the cornerstone, nay, the KEYSTONE of our country. but it all boils down to the fact that most of the time, you have a choice in the matter.
you can wake up in the morning, stuff your face with some bacon covered sausage egg butter biscuit concoction and continue your path toward being rotund, like most americans do. or you can wake up, eat a bowl of grape nuts and jog your healthy ass to work. its your choice.
you can shit, shower, and shave, throw on that suit and go to (look for) work in the multitudes of cube farms out there that are looking to harvest your daily energy to make a bottom line that you will never understand or possibly reach. or you can shave in a mohawk, punch holes in your face, tattoo your mom’s portrait giving you the middle finger on your arm and go be a rockstar (if even in your own mind).
it doesn’t matter. its your choice.
it is someone’s choice when they decide that they want to publish porn. and its your choice to disagree with them. you have the right and choice to pick your own religious beliefs. and to share and defend those beliefs in any peaceful manner (side note: i am agnostic. i believe in a higher power but am not able to lend myself to any religious sect because of an issue with organized religion.). i am not outraged when people come to my door to spread the word about their church or their beliefs. they are more than welcome to. i do however take offense to the scowl that i get when my polite “no thank you” is not what they wanted to hear.
you have the choice to watch whatever television shows are being shown on your overpriced cable service. if a certain show offends you, you have the choice to not watch it. i consider myself a somewhat intelligent human being and am offended by “reality” shows like american idol, so i don’t watch them. but i also don’t picket outside of casting calls for the show, although that would be funny.
“THIS IS JUST TELEVISED KARAOKE, GO HOME!”
but with every choice that you make, there is a cost associated with it. it is only fair. the guy with the mohawk probably isn’t going to make as much money as the guy with the 9 to 5 gig. the hefty person may enjoy their meals, but they might not enjoy as many meals as the healthy guy. there is a price to pay.
so if you CHOOSE to fly somewhere for vacation, to see family, for work, or what have you, you have to understand that there are security guidelines for doing so! people, this is a long metal tube that is going hundred of miles an hour to keep you thousands of feet in the air. it is dangerous enough already. and when someone makes the choice to kill all the people on one of these things by strapping some plastic explosive to his junk, we might want to take some extra precautions that it doesn’t happen again.
its like in elementary school and everybody was getting away with chewing gum in class until little max stuck it under his desk, or it got on the teacher’s shoe, or he got a kick out of sticking it in little heather’s hair. if you cannot trust max with gum, nobody gets gum. we as society have known this level of choice and consequence since we were in kindergarten. one guy can ruin it for everybody…
yet as soon as someone is uncomfortably patted down in order to insure the safety of every other traveller, we all have to scream about it. this is so unjust! this is not fair! this is a violation of my rights! do i feel sympathy for those that were embarassed by their disabilities being brought to light? yes. do i think it is sad that we have to pat down a ten year old to make sure he is not wired with TNT? yes. and for the record, the kid’s DAD is the one that stripped him down, not the TSA agent.
i get it. you are upset. max put a bomb on his junk instead of gum in heather’s hair. deal with it.
you have the choice to DRIVE.
you know, life wasn’t always this convenient. you better start making yourself more comfortable with being “inconvenienced.”
